Bond markets and other markets

The bond market follows a separate calendar recommended by SIFMA, which closes on some days the stock market is open, such as Columbus Day and Veterans Day, and often closes early before holidays. Commodity futures on CME Group, including gold and oil, have their own holiday hours. Check each exchange before you trade.

Pre-market and after-hours trading

Many brokers offer trading before 9:30 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. Volume is thinner and price moves can be larger, which matters when companies report earnings outside regular hours. See How to Read a Company Earnings Report. Market holidays also appear on our economic calendar.
